96% of the records in my Orpington food business list have no website recorded.

Orpington is two postcode districts, BR5 and BR6, and a scatter of villages around the town. The list holds 242 independent cafés, restaurants, pubs and takeaways, and 232 of those records have no website recorded.

BR6, where the High Street is, holds 147; BR5 holds 95. Petts Wood is the biggest named place with 37, all of them in BR5. 46 have a High Street address, 14 are on Crofton Road and 9 on Cotmandene Crescent.

Takeaways are 70 of the 242, 29% of the list, the second-highest share after Croydon. Every one of the 35 pubs and bars has no site on record, as do 65 of the 70 takeaways.

The named places add up to 77 of the 242. The other 165 have addresses that simply say Orpington. The two Crays together come to 13, fewer than Petts Wood on its own.

The limited companies

17 of the 242 are active limited companies on the Companies House register. I looked for a website from the company name for each and found one for 9, which leaves 8 with none that I could find. I did not do that for the remaining 225, and the list shows a site for just one of them.

What this count does not tell you

All 242 entries come from the Food Standards Agency register, which has no website field. The count describes missing recorded website information. The number of businesses without a website may be lower, but this list cannot establish it. Some entries are golf and rugby clubs, a bowls centre or church cafés that the register files in its café and restaurant group, and some will have closed since I pulled it on 20 September 2026.

I have not tested how any site looks on a phone, whether it takes bookings, or whether the business has claimed its Google profile.

What I would do in Orpington

Because the list is spread over villages as well as the High Street, I would put the Google Business Profile first: it is the listing that appears on the map when somebody searches near Petts Wood or Green Street Green. The website goes behind it, with the menu and a number to tap. For the 70 takeaways, the AI receptionist covers calls you cannot answer, and online booking is for anywhere that takes tables.

These Orpington figures come from the list I built in September 2026: the Food Standards Agency hygiene register (pulled 20 September 2026), with the Companies House register (1 September 2026) used to find the limited companies. Across all five towns the same list holds 1,310 independent food and drink business records, 1,240 with no website recorded. When I looked for limited companies’ websites I ignored Facebook and Instagram pages, so a business with only one of those counts as having no website.
