1,240 of 1,310 independent food and drink business records across Bromley, Beckenham, Croydon, Orpington and West Wickham had no website recorded in my September 2026 list.
This is a records check, not proof that businesses have no website. The Food Standards Agency register has no website field. I searched by company name only for limited companies. OpenStreetMap supplements the Bromley list only. Other businesses may already have websites.
Each of my five town pages carries one headline figure. This page puts them side by side. It also explains what was counted, where the data came from and how to get a figure corrected. Every number below is the one already on its town page.
The figures, town by town
Each town links to its own page.
| Town | Postcodes | Records with no website recorded | Records counted | Share with no website recorded |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bromley | BR1, BR2 | 270 | 302 | 89% |
| Beckenham | BR3 | 153 | 163 | 94% |
| Croydon | CR0, CR2 | 522 | 538 | 97% |
| Orpington | BR5, BR6 | 232 | 242 | 96% |
| West Wickham | BR4 | 63 | 65 | 97% |
| All five towns | — | 1,240 | 1,310 | — |
The share is the whole-number percentage shown on each town page. The town pages give the combined count but no combined percentage, so none is shown here.
What was counted
- Who. Independent cafés, restaurants, pubs and takeaways. The town pages call them independent food and drink businesses.
- What I checked. Whether a website was recorded in the combined sources. I did not search individually for every business.
- What counts as website information. Only a recorded business website counts here; a Facebook or Instagram page alone does not. This does not establish whether a business has an unrecorded website.
- Where. The postcode districts in the table. The free business check covers the same five towns.
Where the data comes from
The five town lists draw on the Food Standards Agency register and Companies House, measured in September 2026. OpenStreetMap supplements Bromley only. Website-name searches covered limited companies only.
- OpenStreetMap. Contains data from OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence.
The free business check says it reads a list compiled on 20 September 2026 from the same three sources. It calls that list a snapshot that can be out of date.
What these numbers do not tell you
- One snapshot. September 2026 only. It does not show change over time.
- Missing information is not verified absence. The combined list has no website recorded for these entries. The Food Standards Agency register has no website field, and most businesses were not individually searched. A website could already have existed when the list was compiled and remain unrecorded.
- Whole numbers. Percentages are rounded, as on each town page.
- Five towns, food and drink only. Nothing here describes other areas or other kinds of business.
- A count, not a verdict. It describes recorded website information, not verified website presence, absence or quality.
