How to research a YouTube sponsor prospect.
The useful output is a prospect you can explain: why it fits, what evidence supports it and what needs checking before contact.
1. Start with the creator brief
Write down the audience, geography, content format and upcoming opportunities. Add existing sponsors, exclusivity restrictions, unsuitable categories and brands already approached. This turns a generic brand list into a specific research task.
2. Find activity around relevant content
Look at comparable creators and videos. Save the exact video URL and the date of the evidence. A visible product or affiliate link alone may not establish a paid sponsorship. Label what the source actually shows.
3. Separate evidence from assumptions
| What you found | What it supports | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| An agency’s dated campaign report | The agency reports that historical collaboration. | Current budget, terms or willingness to sponsor another creator. |
| A link in a video description | The description contains that link or offer. | Whether the placement was a fixed-fee deal, affiliate promotion or another arrangement. |
| An address on the brand’s website | The brand publishes that contact route. | Deliverability and whether the recipient owns the relevant budget. |
| An estimated sponsorship value | A calculation using stated assumptions. | The actual fee agreed or paid. |
4. Check fit and novelty
A good source does not make a brand a good fit. Compare the audience and format with the creator brief, then check current relationships and previous approaches. Ask the person using the shortlist whether it adds something new.
5. Find a defensible contact route
Prefer an official partnerships or creator programme page. Record the URL and the date checked. Keep published addresses, externally verified addresses and inferred patterns distinct. An inferred email should remain unverified.
6. Keep the next action beside the evidence
Record the brand, domain, source, date, fit rationale, contact provenance, unresolved questions and next action. The full research sheet preserves those details; use the pipeline to organise the supported working fields.

Try the method on a real example
The downloadable travel sample combines dated agency reports, separately checked video descriptions and public contact routes. It also records title mismatches and unconfirmed buying intent. Those limits are part of the evidence.
SponsorRadar helps organise research. It does not contact brands, negotiate fees or guarantee sponsorships.
